Scope note
Four-legged bench, typically made of wood and asymmetrically built with one side raised higher than the other, designed to facilitate the manual textile carding process. One textile card, or sharp surface fitted with wires, is slipped into a slot on the bench's raised side, while the second card is manually manipulated by a user straddling the bench. The user is forced to change the grip on the lower card as they work the fibers between the two cards. A wooden drum is often attached to the bench's lower side, around which the smoothened wool gathers after it encounters the cards.
